The Sea Dubai RC 44 Gold Cup practice race took place in spectacular conditions this afternoon. Making the best of the big surf, Team Aqua, Team Austria and BMW ORACLE Racing dominated the opposition.
(more)The RC 44 Championship Tour conclusion will take place next week in Dubai, with ten teams representing nine nations competing for the Sea Dubai RC 44 Gold Cup and the season trophies. The regatta starts on Wednesday November 25. The points will count for double.

Current leader of the RC 44 Championship Tour, Team Aqua has the possibility to repeat its 2007 victory. The last event of the 2009 RC 44 Championship Tour will take place in one month in Dubai (UAE). The leading teams are merely separated by a handful of points whilst the regatta counts double. The contest will reach its conclusion from Wednesday, November 25th to Sunday, November 29th.

Thanks to two thirds and a first in the last race, Team Aqua was the best team on the water today. Aqua finishes fifth of the fleet race ranking and sixth of the overall match race / fleet race ranking.

Eigth of the DHL long distance regatta, then a good third and finally last of the last race, Team Aqua didn't perform as it would have wanted. Team Artemis won the DHL long distance race and dominated the day. The conditions were absolutely fantastic, with up to 20 knots of wind and a great sunshine.

Sailing very consistently, Team Aqua is currently sixth – just six points behind the leader. There are many more races ahead and the team is in good shape, the boat is fast and all the game is very open.

The results of the first day have had a strong influence on the final outcome. Yesterday’s early mistakes proved costly. Nevertheless, Aqua had the opportunity to sail a great best of three series against arch-rival Artemis.

Cameron Appleton and the Aqua boys are currently third of their group at the end of day one of the Bank sarasin RC 44 Cup. The new format still gives them a chance to make it to the final, as long as there is enough wind tomorrow.
