Quite an unbelievable year! We won the RC 44 season championships and returned Team Aqua back to the top after 3 years from our first Championship Tour victory in 2007… Both victories have been sweet and this latest one will be the most memorable.

Team Aqua didn’t end up the season as it started it. Chris Bake and the boys finished eighth in Lanzarote, having already secured the 2011 Championship Tour title. The 2011 RC44 World Championships came down to the eleventh and final race of the event to be decided. Katusha made a late comeback, Artemis Racing held their nerve and two new teams made it onto the podium for the first time this season.

The fight is really on to see who will be crowned 2011 RC44 World Champion in Puerto Calero, Lanzarote. With first and second and third and fourth both tied on points, it is - to use a well coined phrase -too close to call. Team Aqua, in fifth, also keeps a good chance.

In a day that many of the teams called “frustrating” or just plain “luck” it was Torbjorn Tornqvist, Morgan Larson and the Artemis Racing (SWE) team who dominated in the sole race of the day at the RC44 World Championships in Puerto Calero, Lanzarote.

With the 2011 RC44 Championship Tour safely in the bag, there was one more series title to be won, the RC44 Match Race title. Having lead the match race rankings since Austria, Cameron Appleton and the team made sure they did enough to make 2011 a double celebration for Team Aqua (GBR), at the final destination in this year’s RC44 Championship Tour and one familiar to the fleet, Puerto Calero in Lanzarote.

Newly-crowned RC44 Tour champions Team Aqua (GBR) will be looking to end their season on the perfect note by adding the RC44 World Championship to their 2011 trophy haul in Puerto Calero, Lanzarote from 16 – 20 November.

Going into the final day of the Adris RC44 Cup, Team Aqua was going for the double. They had within their sights a third event victory of the season and the prospect of being crowned 2011 RC44 Tour Champions with an event to spare.
